FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: "FAITH IN THE FAMILY" What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? Regarding discipleship as it relates to our familial relationships... THE CHRISTIAN AS DISCIPLE PUTTING THE LORD BEFORE THE FAMILY.. Of course, we are to love our parents, spouses and children. Yet our love for the Lord must come first - Mt 10:34-37; 12: 46-50 Otherwise we are not worthy to be called His disciple. Only then will Jesus view us as members of His family. By putting God and His kingdom first, our families will benefit more Mt 6:33 God's providence will help provide for our families' needs we will also be better parents, spouses and children by following Jesus. We will look presenting our families to the Lord next. Make that faith connection today!

FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: "FAITH IN THE FAMILY" What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? We have looked at the Husband/father and Wife/Mother duties in the area of faith in the family let's continue as we look at: DUTIES OF THE SINGLE CHRISTIAN... To utilize the advantage of being single - 1Co 7:32-35 Use your freedom to increase your service to God. Don't be selfish with the extra time and freedom you have THE CHRISTIAN AS CHILD AND SINGLE DUTIES OF CHILDREN... To obey their parents - Ep 6:1; Col 3:20 In the Lord, for this is right. In all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. To honor their parents - Ep 6:2-3 The first commandment with promise - cf. Exo 20:12 By providing for their welfare in later years - cf. 1 Ti 5:4,8,16 Don't begrudge others who may not do as much as you because of their other responsibilities (e.g., children, spouse) To watch out for the dangers of being single - cf. Ec 4:9-11 Temptation - make an effort to develop a close relationship with the Lord. Loneliness - accept invitations to be with others, initiate opportunities to be with others. Self-centeredness - offer yourself in service to others; be flexible. To remember that you are in the family of God - Mk 10:29-30 You have many mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children make the effort to develop and utilize these relationships Next post we will look at regarding discipleship as it relates to our familial relationships... FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: "FAITH IN THE FAMILY" What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? We have looked at the husband and father duties in the family and also at the wife duties let's us continue by looking at the mother's duties. DUTIES OF THE MOTHER... To love their children - Tit 2:4 Which ought to be natural yet sin can lead to a lack of proper affection - cf. Ro 1:31 To manage the household - Tit 2:5; 1Ti 5:14 The primary responsibility of the wife and mother though a woman may also engage in activities outside the home - cf. Pr 31:10-31 To provide spiritual training when male leadership is lacking 2Ti 1:5; cf. Ac 16:1 Timothy's mother and grandmother were believers evidently his father was not, which is too often the case today. Such are the duties of Christian women as wives and mothers. We have look at the families responsibilities of the husband/father in the family we will continue now by looking at the Christian as wife and mother. First the duties of the wife... THE CHRISTIAN AS WIFE AND MOTHER DUTIES OF THE WIFE... Wives are to submit to their husbands - Ep 5:22-24; Col 3:18; 1Pe 3:1-2 As to the Lord, as is fitting in the Lord In everything, as the church is subject to Christ. Wives are to respect and love their husbands - Ep 5:33; Tit 2:4 Not just to submit, but to do so with respect and love for their husbands. Which older women should teach the younger women. Next the duties of a Mother. Make that Faith Connection Today Husband/Father and Mother for your families sake!
Faith Connection For Today: Faith in the Family: What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? We looked at the Christian husband duties last post today we are take a look the father's duties. DUTIES OF THE FATHER... To provide the necessities of life - 2Co 12:14;1Ti 5:8 Parents ought to provide for their children. A man who fails to do so is worse than an infidel. Not to provoke the children to wrath - Ep 6:4; Col 3:21 That is, by unreasonable commands; by needless severity; by the manifestation of anger. Lest, by your continually finding fault with them, they should lose all courage, and despair of ever pleasing you. To provide for spiritual training of the children - Ep 6:4 Bringing them up in the training (discipline, ESV) of the Lord Bringing them up in the admonition (instruction, ESV) of the Lord. To provide loving discipline as necessary - He 12:6-11; Pro 13:24 Even as our Heavenly Father disciplines His children though it may be unpleasant at the moment. FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: FAITH IN THE FAMILY Sorry I have not gotten back to post here have had a plate full lately. But I want to continue on sharing on faith in the family. What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? Consider first.. THE CHRISTIAN AS HUSBAND AND FATHER THE DUTIES OF THE HUSBAND... Husbands are to love their wives - Ep 5:25-29 As Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. As their own bodies, nourishing and cherishing them. The husbands are to leave mother and father - Ep 5:31 Leaving parents to be joined to one's wife. The husband therefore gives his wife priority over his parents. The husbands are not to be bitter toward their wives - Col 3:19 "do not be harsh with them" (ESV) "never treat them harshly" (NRSV) The husbands are to be understanding and give honor to their wives- 1 Pe 3:7 Understanding their delicate nature and honoring them as heirs together of the grace of life. FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: "FAITH IN THE FAMILY" As Christians, we are privileged to be members of God's family with God as our Father in heaven with Christ as our Elder Brother with many fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters - (Mk 10:29-30 NIV) Truly I tell you," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-along with persecutions-and in the age to come eternal life. Even so, we also have duties as members of our human families as husbands and wives as parents and children as married and single. What impact should our faith as Christians have on our physical families? What are our responsibilities as Christians who are blessed with familial relationships? Let's Consider first... FAITH CONNECTION FOR TODAY: What is faith? What does it mean to believe...? Some Christians think it means blind acceptance: "You've just got to believe." Some skeptics agree: "Faith is believing in something without good reasons to do so." Want to continue on What is Faith? We look at: THE NATURE OF FAITH: Where we look at the definition of faith THE EVIDENTIARY NATURE OF FAITH Reasons for having faith. THE NATURE OF CHRISTIAN FAITH. A rational and intelligent faith we can believe with 100% proof. And we do not have to commit 'intellectual suicide' in order to have faith. A HISTORICAL, FACTUAL FAITH... We look at the historical reference to time, places, people and events - Lk 2:1-5; 3:1-2 Faith in who He was: The Christ, the Son of God Faith in what He did: He rose from the dead on the third day The Christian faith is trust or conviction in a Person (Jesus) Today we are looking at: AN EVIDENTIARY FAITH... A faith (conviction, trust) based on evidence Evidence such as eyewitness testimony - Ac 10:39-41; 13:31; 1Jn 1:1-4; 2Pe 1:16-18 The same sort of evidence used in a court of law basing convictions on the credibility of witnesses. Evidence such as fulfilled prophecy - Ac 17:2-3; 18:28; 26:22-23 Based on the improbability of over 300 fulfilled prophecies being coincidence. When just 8 prophecies and their fulfillment are considered, the likelihood of coincidence is 1 in 10 to the 17th power; with just 48 prophecies the probability is 1 in 10 to the 157th power - virtually impossible! The Christian faith is based on such evidence! In ending this series of post on the Nature of faith We have seen that the nature of faith, in particular the Christian faith, is... a. Trust that is intelligent and rational b. Trust in a person of history, Jesus of Nazareth c. Trust in who He is, what He did d. Trust based on empirical and reasonable evidence 2. Faith (trust) does lead to believing in things not seen... a. Such as God who is invisible - Jn 1:18; 1Jn 4:12 b. Such as promises we hope to receive (resurrection, eternal life - Ro 8:24 But such faith is not blind credulity. There is solid evidence for such faith, which in turn leads us to trust in things not seen. Only those ignorant of the evidence ridicule faith, or find themselves wavering in their own faith. I know that I didn't place all the scriptures on theses post one because of lengthen and time on placing them all here, and also so you could for yourself : Examine the evidence, and believe...! Faith (trust) in an object: Jesus of Nazareth Faith in who He was: The Christ, the Son of God Faith in what He did: He rose from the dead on the third day It does make a difference what we believe the old cliché "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you believe in something" is inconsistent with Christian faith It is not faith in of itself that is important but in Whom (the object) our faith is based - Jn 8:24; Romans 10:9 The Christian faith is trust or conviction in a Person (Jesus) Make that Faith Connection Today with Jesus Christ!
